Thanks to that Target commercial, I’ve had this stuck in my head for weeks. I’d never really listened to the lyrics carefully, but with a bit of leaning on my rusty French skills and a little Googling I found out that despite the bright, happy music this is one bizarre and macabre song. (How often do you get a chance to use the word macabre?)
Basically the singer is speaking to a bird as he’s plucking its wings, all while narrating the horror. ”Nice little lark, I’m plucking your head, plucking your back, plucking your beak.”
Guh-ross. And also, somehow, absolutely delightful.
